Hosting 101

Assuming you already have a hosting provider then you need to decide to host your site.

There are several ways to host a site:

-Use the free sub-domain name offered by your hosting provider
+ With this method, you can utility full service that your hosting provider offered like email, MX record, some free hosting might even provide dns management, etc

-Hosting your own domain name either you paid for it or get it from free dns provider via CNAME or pointing your name servers
+ With this method, you have to point your name servers to your hosting provider to take advantage of all your hosting provider offered

-Hosting your own domain name either you paid for it or get it from free dns provider via a-record
+ With this method, you can only use hosting service from your hosting provider but must use your dns provider for other services like email, dns management, MX record, etc

-Parked your own domain name either you paid for it or get it from free dns provider on an existing site
+ With this method, you can either point your name server or a-record then you will have a benefit of not changing anything on your existing site but beware that your site might not work as desire due to how your site script might be hard coded with the existing domain name

Note I repeated “your own domain” for a reason because lot of people not aware that they have to “own” their domain name before they can use it not just create a site with a domain name and expect it to work, it won’t!
